He's my favorite in the series, Maka comes in 3rd right after Soul.

Soul Eater takes place in a school in Death City (not on the map XD) and it is ran by shinigami-sama. the students that attend and trying to become meisters, so they can slay any demons or witches and eat the sould of it. While some students become meisters, others can turn into weapons....cool huh? there has to be a pair of the 2, since meisters use weapons and can sync their soul with them. Once a weapon person(forgot what it is called) has eaten 99 souls of demons or monsters and 1 soul of a witch, they can become death sycthes. Death sycthes are extremely powerful, and like so, they dont even need a meister to use them and still kick ass(more on it, but I'm not that far ahead.)

The main character is maka (meister) and the weapon, Soul. they are a smart pair, and soul can transform into a sycthe, meaning maka is a beast with it!! XD

Next is black star and tsubaki. They are one of the 3 strongest pairs in the school. black star is a ninja, but because of his overzealous cocky attitude and constant rant on surpassing the gods, he is a loud LOUD ninja, until he gets serious tht is.....

If you like it so far, I will go farther in to the series, but not enough to spoil the plot. XD

the last main student character is Death the kid. He is extremely skilled and powerful, hhe is also a shinigami. he father owns the school, so yeah...his fathers shinigami-sama. his weapons are 2 pistols, so this means he has 2 partners, patty and liz. Death the kid have OCD, so he is obsessed with symmetry and things being balanced, and despite he is serious most of the time, this makes him seem more...goofy.

Shinigami created the school as an organization that enforces peace in order to prevent the rebirth of the "kishin" the evil demon god that nearly destroyed everything by plunging the world into chaos. Human souls that have become evil by straying from the path of humans have a high risk of becoming kishin, so evil humans are constantly being hunted down and killed by the students trained at Shibusen. The ultimate goal of the students with their weapons is to have their weapons defeat and absorb the souls of ninety-nine evil humans and one witch, which will dramatically increase the power of the given weapon and thus be capable of being used by shinigami.[1] In order to ensure this is done in a timely manner, all students and weapons attend classes regularly and are given homework or supplementary lessons to further their training. The meisters have a rating system that goes from one to three stars which usually measures soul energy. It is important that the meister and weapon can tune their "soul wavelength" to perform high level attacks and bring out the weapon's full power.
