I try to do the same thing. Like, we have XM radio so I'll randomly flip to a station and if I like something, I'll add it to my playlist. I try not to have the same songs everyone else is listening to.

I like japanese music, it has meaning that match what events are going on in your life. in short you can relate to it as well as it is very catchy. as of last year november I started listen to american music, the rock music anyway, and was quite please. I like rock music, J-rock as well, some...you could say "loud" rock music as well. linkin park and MCR, I feel it relates to me ait and some of my situations. I hate rap music for its either about drugs, killing, sex, or disregard to female equality. thats just me though.

JPN music is my MAIN music.
But I dabble with everything else, for the most part.

i only like maybe 1 or two rap artist really, and that's Ludachris, since he doesnt really rap about those things in his songs, and not to mention his videos are pretty creative

and i myself like MCR and Linkin Park among others, i like J-Rock too it's pretty daamn good, infact PS3-Kun is playing L'arc~en~ciel right now >.< also sometimes it's good to just blow your ears out with some nice heavy music...i love it XD

I haven't been seriously into J-anything since like 6th, 7th grade. I guess I got tired of not being able to understand what the hell they were saying...
